While our Amish restaurants in Ohio are located within or nearby the nation's largest Amish settlements, Sarasota is the vacation destination of choice for Amish and Mennonites from all over the United States.

Located in Sarasota's Pinecraft community, Der Dutchman is a hub not only for senior snowbirds, but for families and young people who want to spend a few months or the entire winter in the sunshine. During the winter, you'll find them dining with us or working in our kitchens, bakery and shops.

Breakfast: A Community Event

It's said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and in Sarasota, breakfast is a community event. Locals and snowbirds gather every morning to chat and laugh over the latest news. Along with the fellowship, our Dutchman breakfast menu has a multitude of choices for every taste. Try Emanuel's Favorite, named for Emanuel Mullet, one of the original restaurant owners. A hearty plate to start your day, it includes a fluffy buttermilk biscuit with sausage gravy, two eggs made just the way you want them, hash browns, choice of ham, bacon or sausage and an order of our own homemade toast.

Our Country Breakfast Buffet, served from 7 to 11am Monday through Friday and through 11:30 on Saturday, provides plenty of savory selections. Scrambled eggs, crisp-fried cornmeal mush, and homemade biscuits with sausage gravy are among the satisfying choices. For a sweet start to the day, there are buttermilk pancakes, breakfast pastries, and fresh fruit.

Heaping Helpings of Amish Kitchen Cooking

Later in the day join our many loyal customers for the Barn-Raising Buffet. With our Lunch Buffet available from 11:30 am to 3:30pm, you'll find a lighter fare with selections of homemade soups, hot and cold sandwiches, our crispy broasted chicken, real mashed potatoes, green beans, macaroni and cheese, salad bar and more. Our Dinner Buffet, served from 3:30 to close, offers tender chicken, juicy old-fashioned roast beef, ham or fish, Amish stuffing, real mashed potatoes, creamed corn, green beans, homemade noodles, salad bar and other special dishes.

On the menu, try classics like country meatloaf and slow-roasted turkey or seafood dishes such as Gulf Coast Grouper, shrimp and tilapia. For lighter options, there are homemade soups, sandwiches, and entrée salads. And everyone enjoys a trip to our beautiful Salad Bar. As bountiful as a garden and as colorful as a quilt, the array includes fresh vegetables, prepared salads, homemade dressings, and regional specialties that are constantly refilled and refreshed. Whenever possible, we try to use local Florida produce for the freshest taste and to support local growers. Children enjoy choosing their favorite foods from our Kid’s Menu.

Amish-style Pies and Desserts

Der Dutchman makes all its own baked goods, so dessert is always worth saving room for—especially the pie! Der Dutchman bakers turn out dozens of different kinds every day, including Peanut Butter Cream, made from a recipe with roots in Ohio’s Amish Country, and traditional favorites like Dutch apple.

Making the your dessert choice will be the most difficult part of your meal. With over twenty pie flavors, plus other favorites such as seasonal fresh strawberry pie , homemade bread pudding and ice cream, there will be no shortage of options.
