Intricate detail and painstaking hand-stitching are the hallmark of these beautiful miniature works of art. Using quilt patterns that were popular among the Mennonite and Amish, quilt artist Lois Flickinger creates original, one-of-a-kind works that showcase the craftsmanship of handmade quilts in a size that makes them easy to hang just as they are or elegantly framed. The design shown here is signed and dated. Each piece is unique and will not be available again in these specific colors and fabrics.
Lois Flickinger turns the traditional craft of quilt-making into a fine art with her intricately detailed, hand-stitched miniatures. A stickler for authenticity, she uses traditional patterns that were popular among the Mennonites and Amish. Each signed and dated, her diminutive works of art are fabulous one-of-a-kind finds never duplicated in exactly the same colors and fabrics.
Lois began making quilts more than 25 years ago, while a student at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas. “A love of textiles led to my interest in quilting,” she says. In time, she moved to Akron, Pennsylvania, where she served as the Quilt Room Supervisor for the Mennonite Central Committee, a not-for-profit organization that assists under-served populations around the world.
In 2000, Lois started making and selling her own quilts, and she recently began creating miniature quilts – a perfect solution for quilt lovers who want to decorate smaller spaces such as guest bedrooms and baths. Lois does all of the quilting by hand, averaging 8 to 10 stitches per inch. With her eye for design and her expertise, each resulting miniature quilt is simply stunning.
