Our dinner rolls, served by the thousands in our Der Dutchman and Dutch Valley Restaurants, are made from a similar recipe as our breads, but are even more soft and moist. Cover loosely and warm them in your oven – your guests will think you’ve been baking all day. Comes in two packs of 12 dinner rolls.
There are some things that just go together - and our breads and Amish peanut butter spread are no exception. Peanut butter spread, sometimes referred to as “church spread,” differs greatly from typical national-name-brand peanut butter. Made with marshmallow cream and sweet syrup, Amish peanut butter is lighter and sweeter, making it seem more like a dessert spread than the pantry staple most modern households stock.
But why the “church spread” alias? In the Amish community, Sundays are kept sacred as the Sabbath – a day of worship and rest from work. That means no cooking. After the Amish have gathered for church services, which can last three hours, a light lunch is served. A typical Sunday church meal might include homemade bread with Amish peanut butter spread, butter, or jam; plus red beets, pickles, cheese, cookies, and leftovers that need no preparation.
